Its Tisha B'Av..I'm not supposed to be even thinking about food, but this is the best possible time to start a blog about food because you don't take food for granted once you've fasted for 25 hours...
I went simple simple before this most hated of fast days--and came up with rice and green glaze collard greens with as little salt as humanly possible.
If you haven't guessed it already, kosher soul is about where my African American self and my Jewish self meet at the crossroads of food and identity. This is a blog for foodies who don't fit in and don't live in one world and use their food to find their way to self-definition. If you have identity issues and solve them through your cooking--we'll have a lot in common. There is no art in the Black or Jewish world that doesn't have its social commentary...So already we've made peace--well sorta....
I'm excited to see where this goes...are you?
